Variable occupancy controller
The Illustrated Guide to Mechanical Building Services, Third Edition (BG 31/2017), by David Bleicher, published by BSRIA in 2017, states in relation to variable occupancy controllers: ‘For spaces that are used intermittently such as meeting rooms, it is often inefficient to provide heating/cooling for the same period as the rest of the building. The provision of a simple on/off switch linked to a timer can overcome this problem. The occupant(s) of the space turn the switch on when they enter, and the timer ensures that the system is switched off again after a pre-set period. This type of device is often used to control the lighting in public stairwells.’
